This group meets the needs of young boys between the ages of 8-12yrs who lack positive male role models (mostly from financially disadvantaged single mother homes), self esteem and social confidence.
Through mentoring with older men and learning the basics of fishing, the participants gain support, self esteem, self confidence and the ability to relate to the elderly and other children.

The participants are sourced with the help of local Primary Schools, community groups (such as Rotary and Lions Clubs) and the Aberfoyle Park Community Centre.

The program runs weekly during school terms and includes 6 elderly volunteers teaching 12 boys lessons on basic fishing skills. These lessons teach knot tying, rig assembly, casting, bait use, how to read tides, how to catch, clean, and cook fish. The lessons go for 2 hours after school and include an evening meal. At the end of each term the participants are invited to join the ‘wefish club’. This club continues the relationships built during term by going out fishing on a weekend at least six times a year.

Both the ‘Wefish’ program and the ‘Wefish club’ are free for participants in order to allow financially disadvantaged youth to participate.
